Three Saturday’s ago on March 5th every DJ we booked was making their Afterhours debut as it was the first night launching Afterhours for Houston’s most hardcore music fans. Tonight we ring in our fourth Saturday and the momentum the Houston music community has created to keep Afterhours going is humbling and incredible to see.
Each DJ has their own unique style ranging from Post Modern Sleaze and Csilla playing serious techno sets to ASYI and JPTR dropping inspiring house / tech house / wavey sets to Zad and Roger Moratinos ripping tribal Tulum vibes into the early morning.
The combination of each DJ’s unique style creates something special for Houston’s music community as we now have a weekly destination offering styles of music you’d be hard pressed to find in most other American cities, let alone Houston this regularly in one place.
Rich Aunty, Tanrieu, Khancept and Liiam
Tonight we welcome four DJ’s who are new to Afterhours with a special performance by artist Tanrieu. While a life long music lover, having been introduced to electronic music by his mother and uncle, his creative outlet is primarily photography and fashion. However Stephen To’Mas who is one of the key organizers of Afterhours booked Tanrieu because his talent as a DJ needed to exist in the universe.
Rich Aunty who is highly selective of the shows she plays at is also making her debut tonight and has a whole new set that she has been working on just for Afterhours. Her style is higher energy tech house with multi genre music mixed in to create a truly amazing set that is akin to a shot of adrenaline.
Khancept who is new to the Houston area will be joining Scarn and Horizon who have held down the upstairs room with a fun party vibe that gives everyone a different, but equally sonically pleasing energy as downstairs. Khancept played a guest set in the Dark Room during our third Afterhours on March 19th and we decided he needed to have his own dedicated set; so we are glad to have him play for our audience tonight.
Liiam will be joining us tonight for the first time following his set at Bauhaus. Liiam who is Trinidadian has traveled extensively and has seen some of the most serious parties around the world. His style reflects the bleeding edge of sound for Afterhours and we are just as curious as you are as to what he has in store for us.
We aim to create a safe space for Houston’s most hardcore music fans to enjoy a nonjudgemental environment where they can freely dance and party for however long they like. If people want to stay until 10 am, we will keep the party going until then.
When Human Simulator of Body Drip, Stephen To’mas of CRIM and I built this night, our goal was to create a weekly party focused on music and freedom of expression. Having hosted guests from multiple communities in Houston for the past 3 Saturday’s, I think its safe to say we have achieved that goal.
Tonight we will close out March with an exciting line up and will immediately start planning for April to continue giving Houston what it deserves, an amazing party with their favorite DJ’s and hear new DJ’s playing music you can’t experience anywhere else.
