The event is titled, “Together 4 Ukraine” and it’s a sonically driven fundraiser.
There’s a $10 cover to attend the event and all proceeds will go directly to the Ukrainian government to fund non-weaponized supplies like food, water, clothing, personal hygiene, etc… for their national armed forces.
Donations will be accepted in cash or CC via QR code linking directly to the receiving agency in Ukraine.
Julia, Chantal and Friends Take Action
Julia Tkachenko-Regan who lives in Houston but was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, moved to the U.S. in 2011. However, a large part of her family remained in Ukraine and now they’re embroiled in a war against Russia that no Ukrainian asked for. This includes her father and the men of her extended family who have joined the Ukrainian armed forces to repel Russia’s attack against her country.
With the men in her family risking their lives to maintain the independence of her birth nation, she felt compelled to help in any way she could. With direct contact to the Ukraine, she became acutely aware of the type of immediate aid needed and figured out the quickest way to get it to Ukraine.
With a background in event management and once the head of InterNations, an expat networking group in Houston, she knew that organizing an event that would bring people together would be the right avenue to help collect the much needed money to send back home.
So the first person she called was her friend Chantel Horváth also known by her DJ name, Csilla. Both she and Chantel agreed that music’s power to unite people was the right medium to leverage for the success of this event.
Chantel who is of Hungarian heritage, grew up in a Slavic enclave of New York bordering the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. Her childhood friends included Ukrainian, Moldovan, Romanian and Russian immigrants or first generation Americans of Eastern European lineage. This Summer she was in Ukraine and maintains deep relationships within the country where she receives regular updates on the declining situation.
While in New York, Chantel was an active humanitarian with her fundraising efforts to help displaced children during the war in Kosovo, supporting families during 911 and rallying aid for the Indian Ocean tsunami were recognized by the American Red Cross.
So with both Chantel and Julia having personal ties to Ukraine, innate humanitarian compassion and experience in mobilizing relief efforts, the two quickly collaborated to produce Together 4 Ukraine. After finalizing plans with Julia, Chantal reached out to her friends in the Houston music community to see if they wanted to help.
Her outreach resulted in an international coalition of Houston based DJ’s who have joined Together 4 Ukraine to bring unity, awareness and much needed fundraising for this important cause.
With 7 DJ’s on the line up, each one comes from a different country, yet all live peacefully together in America. Its a testament to Houston’s diversity and how human differences can be overcome by a common love, in this case music.
The DJ line up for Together 4 Ukraine includes:
